Adeboye described as Honest and Genuine; listed as one of most influential personalities in the world

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye was recently listed as one of the top 50 most influential people in the world. The ratings released by Newsweek Magazine further likened the growth of the church to the one time emergence of Starbuck Coffee shops in the USA.

In a recent visit to the USA, the GO stated that there were currently about 350 parishes of the RCCG in the US and if he had to visit each of them, the theory of multiplier effect would come in to place. He stated that there was an ongoing progressive growth in the number of parishes  thus making visits to all practically impossible.

A few weeks ago, he emerged one of the privileged Nigerians awarded national honours by President Umaru Yar’Adua. ” His extraordinary success was attributed to “his reputation for honesty,” and his ability to remain above board where many Pentecostal pastors have been accused of financial misdeeds and faking supernatural powers.

On account of his simple lifestyle and disdain for unnecessary glorification, many had thought he could reject the award, but he did otherwise. He found in a recent gathering an opportunity to explain his acceptance of the honours, saying that he did so on account of an instruction he received from God.

“God said I should not refuse it, that it is not about me, it is about my church,” he said.

The preacher, who also commented on his rating by Newsweek, said, “Suddenly, they said they listed 50 most powerful people in the world, and they mentioned your General Overseer. I said ‘God, what is it now? I want to sit in my own corner and do my own thing quietly.’ But He said it is about me and my church. They said I am number 49.

All my friends in the world were telephoning and jubilating. But God said, ‘Son, I just want to show you that you have a long way to go, because at the end of the day, you are still going to be number one. The Redeemed Christian Church is still going to be number one.

“The only reason why they are mentioning Adeboye is because of RCCG. They did not mention me when I was a lecturer in the university. It is not me, it is you (referring to members) that the world is honouring.

“The magazine that wrote about us said behind Pastor Adeboye’s success is honesty; it did not use the word “holiness”. They said he did not use the tricks that some Pentecostal churches were using,” he said.

He therefore advised the pastors to live holy and try to stay above board in their spiritual lives, assuring that the church would continue to pursue its mission to ensure that there was at least one member of the RCCG in every nation of the earth.
